A company specializing in building energy performance oversees maintenance and servicing for over 1,500 sites, including a 190-unit residential condominium. They are required to ensure energy supply and efficiency, handle day-to-day operations and preventive maintenance, and guarantee the upkeep and replacement of equipment. A key obligation was to maintain an average indoor temperature of 21°C during the day and 19°C at night, all while optimizing energy usage.
The company faced two main challenges. First, the condominium lacked a Building Management System (BMS), meaning there was no unified way to monitor or control heating systems, pumps, or energy meters. Second, the team sought to reduce unnecessary site visits by technicians—something only possible with reliable remote access and real-time data. They needed a cost-effective, scalable solution that could be installed quickly, deliver robust data access, and integrate seamlessly with their preferred energy monitoring software.
To modernize the building’s energy infrastructure, an intuitive connectivity solution was deployed to make BMS-like capabilities accessible without the complexity or cost typically involved. Within a single afternoon, technicians were able to create a BMS network within the boiler room, connect key equipment, and begin transmitting operational data.
Once connected, the team could view and interact with building systems in real-time through the user console and API.
In less than a day, a disconnected, analog mechanical room transformed into a smart, remotely managed environment. The system now enables full visibility and control over key components, including the ability to adjust heating remotely, analyze energy trends, and troubleshoot without a technician needing to be on-site.
By integrating Clarity into its workflow, the company not only met its contractual performance goals but also positioned itself to scale these capabilities across other properties. With ongoing plans to add temperature sensors in select apartments, the client is continuing to push the boundaries of data-driven energy optimization.
